Debra Barnard

Aurora Dance’s principal has been involved in various aspects of the entertainment industry for over fifteen years.  You might say that performing was in Debra’s blood from the beginning as she was bought up in a family of performers. Her Grandparents had been champion Ballroom dancers and her mother was a talented ballerina and later taught ballet and tap dancing to children and adults.

Debra started dancing at the age of three with Ballet classes and soon added Ballroom, Latin American, Disco and rock n Roll.  She competed at National Level and at age 10 she was successful in an audition for the Royal Ballet’s associate talented children programme.  In her early teens, Debra was offered a place at a full time London stage school and from there she was talent-spotted by the Canadian Royal Ballet School.

Professionally, as well as appearing in various shows including the Children in Need, as a dancer, vocalist and dance instructor Debra has worked for the most prolific and respected entertainment companies including Cunard and Orient Cruise Lines, Butlins, Haven, Rank Leisure, Dansatak and many others.

Debra is proud to be affiliated to the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, recognised throughout the world as the leading teaching and examining body for dance and theatre training.

I.S.T.D

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is the world's leading dance examinations board. Formed in 1904 it is today a registered educational charity and is the only organisation that covers the full spectrum of dance examinations on a truly global scale.

Today, The I.S.T.D covers so many genres of dance and theatre education that it has become necessary to divide the styles into faculties.

At Aurora Dance, we cover many styles of dance and theatre training, concentrating predominantly on the Dance Sport faculty (Modern Ballroom, Latin American, Disco/Freestyle, Rock n Roll and Line Dance) and the Imperial Dance and Theatre faculty (Classical Ballet, Tap and Modern).
