DANCE STYLES
All classes can be taken just for fun or students can be entered for medals and/or graded exams if they chose to do so.
Students may also be given the opportunity to perform for friends and family as well as taking part in competitions once they have passed a medal test. There will also be opportunities throughout the year for students to show off what they have learned in a more social environment at one of Aurora Dance’s party nights, where guests are welcome.

DISCO FREESTYLE ROCK N ROLL
Originating in America in the 1970’s with the obvious influences of Saturday Night Fever and the infamous Studio 54, this fun and funky dance style has developed over the years into a far more modern form of social dancing. These days the term Freestyle is perhaps more appropriate as we are no longer limited by disco music. The style of choreography is dictated by the music chosen, whether it is high-energy dance music, a funky R&B song for a more ‘street’ feel or an expressive slow-dance ballad.
Today’s Rock n Roll style is an amalgamation of Lindy-hop, Swing, Le Roc and modern Jive and is a dance style that children and adults love doing.
LATIN AMERICAN & BALLROOM
Most dance enthusiasts will have seen programmes such as the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars. Latin American along with Ballroom is what you have seen on those shows.
Latin is made up of 5 dances: Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive and Samba.
Ballroom also has five dances: Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango and Viennese Waltz.
Each dance has its own distinctive rhythm and feel, and it’s own story. The Rumba with its sultry, sensual movement contrasted with the fiery flourish of the Paso Doble, or the whirling fluidity of the Viennese Waltz against the sharp passion of the Tango make this an exciting and vibrant genre of dance.
LINE DANCING
Line dancing is essentially a short, repeatable dance that is often danced with a turn to two or four walls. Most Line dance classes will only teach traditional American style western line dancing, all cowboy boots and ‘yeehaws’! This is a lot of fun but at Aurora Dance we like to mix things up a bit. We teach some of the more popular western line dances but they are mixed in with more modern line dances and party dances to a variety of music. You might be ‘Boot Scootin’ one week and ‘Cha Cha Sliding” the next. This is a great way to have fun and keep fit.
FIT n FUNKY
Do you want to get fit for the summer, maybe shed a few pounds or just tone up without spending hours in the gym?
Perhaps you don’t like the idea of bobbing up and down on a plastic step or doing hundreds of lunges with bar bells. Is the thought of endless knee raises to high energy Ibiza style music just too traumatic? You might have thought about taking up dancing but weren’t sure about which style to try. This could be the class for you!
We will work on a routine designed to work core muscle groups and burn calories by having fun. Each week the routines will be based in a different style of dance from Rock n Roll, through Salsa and Street to Jazz Ballet
But the best part is the nostalgia. We will be working to great dance music from the 70s and 80’s with the emphasis on making getting fit, fun.
LITTLE STARS
Songs and games for toddlers and babies. Actions, instruments and lots of fun, helping your little star develop rhythm, coordination and social awareness.
